Kids Dentist
(Ages 4–12) in Stafford, VA

Preventive care, gentle treatments, and a team that knows how to connect with kids ages 4 to 12. A kids dentist your child actually looks forward to visiting.

Why Ages 4 to 12 Are So Important for Dental Health

These are the years when your child’s smile is going through its biggest transformation. Baby teeth are falling out. Adult teeth are coming in. Habits around brushing, flossing, and diet are being shaped every day.

A pediatric dentist who specializes in this age group understands how to:

  • Track the arrival of permanent teeth and spot alignment issues early
  • Protect growing teeth with sealants and fluoride
  • Catch and treat cavities before they spread
  • Make dental visits positive so your child builds a lifelong comfort with the dentist
  • Coach your child on brushing and flossing as they develop the coordination to do it on their own

By age 6 or 7, most children can start brushing on their own with some supervision. Use a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste, brush twice a day, and floss once a day—especially between teeth that touch.

What to Expect at Your Child's Visit

Every visit is tailored to your child's age and developmental stage. Here is what a typical appointment looks like for kids ages 4 to 12.

Common Questions About Kids' Dental Care

Answers from our board-certified pediatric dentists.

My child is nervous about the dentist. How can you help?
We see nervous kids every day and we are really good at helping them relax. We go slow, explain everything in kid-friendly language, and let your child feel in control. For kids who need extra support, we offer sedation options.
Most children start losing baby teeth around age 6 and continue through age 12. The process varies for every child, and we monitor it closely at every visit.
We recommend sealants for most kids once their permanent molars come in (usually around ages 6 and 12). Sealants are one of the most effective ways to prevent cavities on the back teeth.
